Mannequin-based Team Training
The computer driven mannequin is used in the Goodman Simulation Center to replicate many physiologic parameters (pulse, heart and breath sounds, blood pressure, etc.) The mannequin is used in various scenarios to engage surgeons and those interested in surgery. There are scenarios developed around trauma (ICU/ED and field), operating room situations, etc. Because the currently available mannequin simulators are limited in their activities for surgical procedures, one must develop hybrid scenarios that combine part-task trainers or other attachable “surgical” parts or side-by-side virtual reality technologies.
The mannequin simulator are used across all levels of learners, from K-12 students to expert leaners. The lessons learned using mannequin-based simulation teach us about the clinical work unites and organizational systems.
